This strip feels… out of place? It's another example of Flip, Impie, and Slivvers being excluded from an event and it's been a while since we've seen this. - 1/15
In fact, not too long ago King Morpheus himself threw a special Thanksgiving dinner in celebration of how well behaved these boys have been over the last year! So… why go back to telling them they can't join the fun? - 2/15
It's entirely possible it's just the nature of the event. Maybe the reason was simply as the Princess explains; that they feared Flip's raucous personality would send the babies wailing… I *might* buy that… - 3/15
But, it still *feels* out of place, either way (at least to me it does). I'm personally wondering if this wasn't a strip that McCay had intended to be used a ways back that, for whatever reason, wasn't used until now as a "fill-in"? - 4/15
This is all speculation, of course… it's entirely possible this was an intended narrative regression, but seeing as how we're so close to the end of the series life, it still strikes me as odd. - 5/15
It is interesting that Slivvers is the one who really messes up the plan today… but he does so because he is trying to help a poor woman deal with an unleashed dog that is harassing her own littler one. - 6/15
When Slivvers lets go, the buggie begins to roll down the ramp towards the stairs… I'm wondering what Slivvers thought would happen? - 7/15
He's been proven to be a very intelligent person and so it strikes me as odd that he doesn't plan ahead for this… - 8/15
While the visual does indeed suggest the buggie is on a ramp, it's also possible that McCay is subtly suggesting that it is Impie's fault for the ride they take… - 9/15
Flip does chide Impie for wiggling about and one has to wonder if that is what, ultimately, send the buggie careening towards the stairs… maybe Sliv thought he had it in a position that wouldn't fall until it was wiggled free? - 10/15
Personally, I blame Slivvers, but there is a reading there that (when combined with evidence from previous strips) could be possible. - 11/15
Finally, I want to note that this is one of the best wake-up panels in a really long time. The screaming Giant babies wake Nemo from Slumberland the same way the real baby visiting his home wakes him from his dreams. - 12/15
I also love the suggestion that this strip gives about the unconscious dreaming mind. For us to reach the point where the baby wakes Nemo, he had to be aware (unconsciously) that there was a baby in his home leading to his dreaming about babies. - 13/15
It's one of the most interesting temporal storytelling moments that we've seen in #LittleNemo in quite some time and I wanted to make sure to point it out! - 14/15
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #544. What's yours? - 15/15
