I don't really have much to say about this strip… it seems to be continuing a trend where Pill and Figures are the main focus and our friends act as background commotion. - 1/8
Obviously, Jazbo's appearance in panel 3, sucking up water as he is, prepares us for what's to come… we know that Pill, Figures, and the fella they're with are going to get soaked. - 2/8
We don't know who the man is until the Princess identifies him for us though in panel 7. Why is there a peace delegate at Slumberland? Are they going to war? - 3/8
Of course, he doesn't take too kindly to the soaking. I think this is a pretty clear cut example of Flip overstepping his training (why whack poor Jazbo with a stick in panel 5?), which sets him off. - 4/8
Even though, it *might* be McCay's intention to suggest that Impie's tail pulling is to blame (though, I don't buy that, myself). - 5/8
Again, Jazbo's rage in the background takes on a silent "second" to the problem caused by the delegates soaking. Even though it is more visually interesting, McCay foregrounds the political events and leaves this to the background. - 6/8
I do wonder why Pill and Figures have featured so prominently of late? Young readers surely wouldn't have felt connected to them would they? Why feature them so much? - 7/8
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #526. What's yours? - 8/8
