Well, McCay has swapped a Man-Eating Automobile for a Vegetable-Eating Giant here… and, shockingly, the Giant is more vicious! - 1/11
Pill has played what he feels is a seemingly inconsequential prank against Flip… accept, and I don't know this giant very well, but it doesn't SEEM harmless… this dude looks like he wants to bite Flip's head off! - 2/11
I thought the remix on "Jack and the Beanstalk's" famous Giant was quite funny! Maybe McCay was dedicating this strip to getting young children to eat more vegetables? - 3/11
Though, if that was the case, I don't know that this strip succeeds… I mean, if I were a young reader, I wouldn't want to identify with the giant red faced behemoth in the penultimate panel. - 4/11
They gang does a pretty good job at evading the Giant at first, but the Princess gives them up (by mistake) and then they scatter! - 5/11
In this moment though, we see that all the boys have got costumes (even Impie!), but that Flip has forgotten the giant is attracted to green and worn a green hat! - 6/11
I found this particularly funny since, well… changing into these costumes was about hiding Flip's green head… the green hat certainly didn't help that! - 7/11
McCay is also quite fond of impacting the final, wake-up panel lately. In this case, like many times before, the boys run into it and cause it to be moved, crunched, or otherwise effected. - 8/11
Coupled with this visual element, is the metalook that Nemo gives his dream characters… turning around to see the gang as he wakes. - 9/11
Again, none of that is new, but I enjoy it when it occurs. - 10/11
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #517. What's yours? - 11/11
