Day #511: Little Nemo and the Baggage Blunder

"Little Nemo in Slumberland" dated April 11, 1926:

Transcript of Tweet by @LittleNemo1905 (NOVEMBER 26, 2021):

Today, the gang decides to visit "Drowsyville," a place that Pill describes as a "quiet place with quiet people"… a bit of a curious description when the strip begins with a Marching Band on standby. - 1/10

Personally, I found this strip a bit repetitive and uninteresting. The tripping over the baggage gag worked the first time (I thought the gestural action from panel 3 to 4 was quite funny)… - 2/10

…and I might even admit it worked the second time (when Figures trips), but after that it just becomes too cluttery around the train car door with the many suitcases strewn on the floor. - 3/10

It really makes the third tier feel superfluous and, because the action isn't nearly as clear as above, less funny, as well. - 4/10

Of course, its necessary to set-up the final action in the penultimate panel, which (frustratingly) see's Flip punishing Impie for the events. - 5/10

I find it particularly annoying that Impie takes all the blame here when Slivvers is just as responsible since they were both helping to unload the car. - 6/10

The visual of Flip lifting his fist to wallop Impie, couples with Impie's expression of terror at the impending punch, is very upsetting. - 7/10

What might be worse is the way that Nemo describes him as "that Imp"… I found this incredibly cold! And the Princess turns her back! - 8/10

In recent strips, we've seen Nemo and the Princess be much more caring and kind towards Impie and yet here… what the heck happened? - 9/10

This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #511. What's yours? - 10/10
