Contrary to the title of this strip, there is very little quiet happening in Gulliver City on this night… - 1/13
I'll admit that, at least for the first few panels, this strip is a little bit… uninteresting? But there is a lot of cool gestural stuff happening that I really like. - 2/13
Impie is at the centre (as he often in) of the embedded gestures because of the exaggeration with which McCay draws him. Honestly, while everyone is squabbling its more fun to watch what Impie is doing. - 3/13
From the pillow toss wind up, to crawling in front of the beds, to the baseball bat motion and strike in panels 8 and 9, his movement in this strip is just amazing. - 4/13
Close second is the ever increasing number of Lilliputians that arrive to handle the disturbance. The event becomes evermore hectic as the police and fire fighters arrive. - 5/13
As the squabble reaches its apex, and the fight cloud erupts in panel 11 the Lilliputian emergency responders soak them down and do everything they can to "put the fire out". - 6/13
I don't know why I thought it was so funny, but when the Princess comes in on panel 11, I burst out laughing… she so earnestly wonders what's going on… as if putting the four fellas in the same room was *never* going to cause a problem. - 7/13
A few other observations. We have another pictorial-filled thought balloon visually depicting Pill's dream, which is always fun to find. - 8/13
It also seems as though Flip and Pill's relationship will always be one of tension… maybe it's because it's late… maybe it’s because he's tired… but Pill blaming Flip immediately after so many recent examples of Impie's mischief is interesting. - 9/13
Nemo finds himself being mediator and getting caught in the middle, which seems appropriate given the group he's been bunked with. Between swinging bed post bats and tossed pillows he's right in the crosshairs in panel 9. - 10/13
Of course, by trying to keep the situation from escalating… he gets caught up in the fight cloud when it escalates… which is pretty funny in and of itself. - 11/13
Finally, the fact that the parent (mom or dad) that yells to Nemo after he wakes mimics exactly what the Princess says in panel 11 is another nice example of the blurring of dreaming and waking worlds. - 12/13
This is my reading of "In the Land of Wonderful Dreams" #380. What's yours? - 13/13
