Not a lot to say about this strip today… though, I will admit, I learned that fish can smell as a result of it! - 1/6
Now, as far as how this strip can be read allegorically, I think that too is pretty straightforward. - 2/6
It seems to me our fish has realized that when he is taken for a fool (and tricked by an actor who is working in bad faith), the only reasonable thing to do is warn others that might also be tricked. - 3/6
If McCay felt like he had been betrayed or tricked by the Herald, maybe this is a veiled warning to the paper editorial? A promise to use his connections and warn others of the mistreatment? - 4/6
For a man as well-connected as established McCay, this might not be an idle threat (if it is indeed a threat to begin with). - 5/6
