Welcome to Boston, Little Nemo! His strip marks the next stop on our itinerary! - 1/11
I'm largely unimpressed by this strip, but I would wager that its because I'm unfamiliar with many of the nuances that this strip employs. - 2/11
I certainly recognize the Massachusetts State Building in panel 3, but I'm not certain what building we're passing in panel 2 (Old North Church? Trinity Church?). - 3/11
The second tier features a young Bostonian trying to convince Nemo and the group to stick around a bit longer, which ultimately is just sort of a cover for Flip to sneak off… - 4/11
The joke about Boston beans and Boston brown bread is entirely lost on me… can someone explain? - 5/11
I mean… bread in a can? That's pretty unique, but it isn't something that I've ever heard of… so I understand how that might be a "Boston" thing, but what makes the beans "Boston"? - 6/11
I'll end by making an unfortunately frequent comment lately and that is that the Captain's mistreatment of Impie is completely purposeless in this strip. Besides demonstrating the Captain's prejudice, it serves very little purpose. - 7/11
These moments of casual prejudice certainly reflect the ignorance of the early 1900s in this regard and it saddens me that young children reading this strip were consuming it in their media. - 8/11
If anyone wonders how systemic racism was permitted to survive (and sadly, thrive) throughout history, it's moments like these that demonstrate how it happened. - 9/11
Moments like this, that normalized the mistreatment of Others, has become far too frequent with the Captain's arrival. It truly is a blight on the otherwise fun Sightseeing Series… - 10/11
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #274. What's yours? - 11/11
