Though this strip is a bit uninteresting to me, I think it's funny that McCay takes the time to answer a question about the more mundane moments of life on Mars. - 1/10
That said… I'm kind of disappointed with the answer. Where as I could forgive the earth-animal variants of last strip because they were beautiful and fun, watching the boys be "laundered" isn't as engaging. - 2/10
And, we're never really told what is pouring all over them in panel 6… is it bleach? Don't you need… you know… water to have bleach? - 3/10
It's also pretty standard characterization… Flip is angry and wants to punch the Secretary and Nemo (who has become much braver over the years) doesn't seem scared by the situation at all. - 4/10
This (like the earth-animal variants) could all be explained away by the logic of a young boys imagination… we might just be seeing the limits of his creativity as the past two strips are based largely on earth experiences. - 5/10
But that seems like a cop-out to me. We know McCay is more imaginative than this and I think it's worth pointing out when a strip seems "phoned in". Maybe I'm being tough on this strip, but it was unimpressive for me. - 6/10
That said, the final panel is interesting. Nemo declares that he wishes he could leave Mars and see the Princess again. - 7/10
This seems to be a trend after a prolonged absence from the Princess. Nemo has clearly developed and continues to have feelings (of friendship) for the Princess. - 8/10
I wonder if we will see her join our airship adventures anytime soon? - 9/10
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #252. What's yours? - 10/10
