Well there are a few subtle, but sort of interesting moments, here within this strip! - 1/11
For starters, we have another example of Nemo being instantly recognizable by the citizens (this time the Post Master General) or (Dre)America. - 2/11
Though, I will say… I question the delivery method that he and Nemo agree upon here… - 3/11
Rather than deliver these Valentines to their intended recipients, they simply drop them from the airship and scatter them across the earth by letting them loose miles above ground. - 4/11
Nemo tells them to just, "pile it on the deck any old place" because they'll just "throw it all off again". This smacks of a child's understanding of how the mail works (in my opinion), which I think is pretty hilarious. - 5/11
The Janitor in the penultimate panel doesn't look happy though… I think he realizes just how much work will have to go into cleaning up the mess that Nemo has created… that poor, poor man. - 6/11
I also really *love* the woman in the large black hat's reaction, as well… she shares the same experience as the reader, which is a really fun little twist, I think. - 7/11
In panel 8, the Valentines seem like lovely, sincere, and well-intentioned Valentine's Day Cards… but panel 9 reveals them to be Vinegar Valentines, instead! - 8/11
You can read more about Vinegar Valentines here: - 9/11
Now, there seems to be a plethora of really fascinating commentary gracing these particular VVs, but some that stand out to me (particularly because they are still of interest today) are the ones about the police and the environmental pollution. - 10/11
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #227. What's yours? - 11/11
