Day #195: Little Nemo in the Sky on the Fourth of July

Well, I guess our question from last strip is answered… the whirlpool was indeed some sort of drain that brought the boys to settle in some calmer waters… - 1/11

Or… at least they *seem* like calmer waters. It doesn't take long for the boys to realize that they've settled on top of a field of fireworks! - 2/11

This isn't surprising considered Flip declares that it is the Fourth of July immediately in panel 1 (not even to mention the patriotic title card of this strip). - 3/11

Some of what I notice in this strip includes the steady emptying of the water from within the panels… it's slow, but, by tier 2, the fireworks have been revealed. - 4/11

I find the juxtaposition between the rescinding waters and the rocket-powered ascension of all our friends to be delightful. The subtly is what makes it fun… that and the face that they end up exactly where they started after. - 5/11

Nemo and Flip seem to be chummy again, which I'm glad for. I was worried that Flip might harbour some resentment towards his friend for the walloping he received last week… - 6/11

It does seem though that the Professor has been traumatized by his experience in Slumberland… I feel for him; he was dragged into this and clearly doesn't want to be here anymore. - 7/11

Flip says something to this effect in panel 9, but by the end of the strip, he is right back with the other two chums. - 8/11

The only other thing that really stuck out to me was Nemo's continued defense of the Princess. In tier 1, Flip and Nemo discuss this. - 9/11

Flip claims that the Princess doesn't want Nemo back and Nemo suggests that this is all a positive thing and that they're moving in the right direction. I guess only time will tell. - 10/11

This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #195. What's yours? - 11/11
