A wizard! Slumberland has a wizard and we're just now being introduced to him?! What gives McCay? You've been pulling a fast one on us! - 1/17
This unnamed wizard seems to be quite adept at his job. Generally speaking, when someone is sent from Slumberland to fetch Nemo, he is woefully incapable of success. - 2/17
This fella doesn't miss a beat the entire strip! First, he turns Flip into fog, then he pre-empts the Dawn Guards interference by turning Nemo to stone, and finally, his enchanted marble statues defend Nemo and keep Flip from reaching him. - 3/17
Sure, he turns Nemo into stone to accomplish this, but it's inarguably the most success anyone has had so far! - 4/17
I'm very eager to see how his efforts continue next week! - 5/17
I do wonder what the implications are of Nemo encased in stone for a week… are they any different than any other week? - 6/17
We have no idea if our Nemo dreams from Sunday to Friday evening so we have no real way of knowing what this transformation means for his dreaming… - 7/17
We can (probably) safely bet though that next week will begin with the wizard freeing Nemo from his stone captivity… I mean, protection. So maybe it acts like a "save point"? - 8/17
Something interesting happens to the Professor when Flip is transformed into fog… he is revealed as a fairly traditional Slumberlandian! At least, that's how I read it? - 9/17
I suppose you could wonder whether he has been "transformed" into someone fit for Slumberland… but it seems to me that "revealing" is far more appropriate. - 10/17
It means renegotiating previous meaning that we've constructed about the Professor… for instance, how has Flip kept him disguised for all this time? - 11/17
Other implications come up. Who is his father (strip #177)? Why does he need a job (strip #185)? What's with the pig latin (strip #184)? Maybe most importantly… who is this Slumberlandian to Flip? - 12/17
We also see the return of the Dawn Guard who seems a bit… off. What is he doing hiding behind some statues scheming? He holds a much more honourable position that that in Slumberland… why is he acting Flip's snitch? - 13/17
I know that he's done much of Flip's dirty work in the past (so that's normal), but it's the running and scheming with him that seems out of character. - 14/17
Who knows? Maybe something has happened to him in the background while we've been away. Maybe he was punished for his role in the most recent melting? - 15/17
Either way, there is some really interesting stuff going on in this strip and I can't wait to hear what you all have to say! - 16/17
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #187. What's yours? - 17/17
