"Little Nemo in Slumberland" dated December 13, 1908:

This strip is another simple holiday strip… sure, it utilizes some interesting moment-to-moment transitions throughout and the title card is festive and lovely, but it's other qualities are lacking. - 1/8
The tradition of waiting up for Santa takes a bit of a turn here when Nemo decides to go up to his roof to do the waiting… I actually enjoyed panel 3 as he ascended his homes staircase! - 2/8
Obviously, this whole dream stems from a fear of not receiving gifts as Santa says in panel 11, "Nemo is not here then I'll leave nothing for him"… is there a worse thing for a young boy to hear out of Santa's mouth on Christmas Eve? - 3/8
You might evens say that he's being "frozen out" of Christmas (forgive the pun, please)… - 4/8
But, just as the Nemo-as-icicle falls and shatters, we see a caricaturized woman (Angelus, is that you?) in the upper right corner of panel 12… which sort of ruined my enjoyment of the strip. - 5/8
While it tells us a little more about Nemo's family (they have a live in cook?), it also reads as pointless and unnecessary… sort of inserting caricature for no real reason… - 6/8
Which I find rather aggravating… particularly when attached to an otherwise enjoyable (if not ground-breaking) #LittleNemo strip. - 7/8
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #166. What's yours? - 8/8
