This strip really speeds up the parade quite substantially… almost every panel features a new group of parade walkers. - 1/11
We still maintain a strict continuity from panel to panel though because we see at least one member of the previous group in the bottom right corner of every panel. - 2/11
The temporal progression slows down at panel 4 though, as we focus much longer on the ostrich party coming forward. This is, of course, part of the gag. - 3/11
Flip has mistaken Dr. Pill's litter (which may not actually be a litter because it has wheels…) for the Princess'. The fact that he has the whole gang mistakenly cheering for his nemesis' arrival is quite funny actually. - 4/11
In panel 7, Mary asks what we're all thinking, I believe… why does he hate him so much? I mean, sure he hasn't been the nicest to Flip, but neither have other people… - 5/11
Dr. Pill's position is just brilliant, as well! The gestural communication is just hilarious as he leans back, arms crossed, frowning (?) at the sight of Flip yelling at him from the balcony. - 6/11
Less funny is the "servants" that he has accompanying him on his litter… it again reinforces that imperialist perspective we spoke of the other day and just another example of abhorrent caricature. - 7/11
Finally, I'll end by mentioning that Mary makes a comment about this being the seventh week that they've been at the parade… which has me wondering… - 8/11
Is it possible that McCay had to squeeze another week into the parade and maybe made it AFTER he'd made this one, thus getting the weeks backwards? - 9/11
It seems hard to believe considering how tight the continuity from strip to strip is… maybe he just lettered them out of order and that's how it happened? It's an intriguing mystery, but one we'll probably never solve. - 10/11
This is my reading of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" #141. What's yours? - 11/11
